The 701486 Smoke Detector and Siren is designed to sense smoke that comes into the detector chamber. This device is a combination of a Z-Wave Sensor (Smoke) and a Z-Wave Actuator (Siren). The device is either powered by battery or can be powered by an optional external power supply. It supports secure communication and will automatically recognize other smoke sensors sharing alarm messages to cover the whole home. (Please note that this meshing is not recommended for networks with more than 3 smoke detectors. In this case please control theme using a central controller and turn off the meshing function by setting configuration parameter 5 and 6.)
This product consists of a standard photo electric smoke detector with a pluggable Z-Wave Plus wireless interface module. Thanks to Z-Wave wireless technology, you can define further actions triggered by the smart home control center in case of an alarm. To enhance safety, escape routes can be highlighted through automatic lighting, opening shutters and unlocking doors. If an electrical device (e.g. iron) is the causer for the alarm, it can be switched off automatically (if plugged to an intelligent wall plug).
Beyond these functions, the Z-Wave smoke detector can be used as an independent indoor siren which can be integrated into an existing security system. Within your Z-Wave smart home network the smoke detector can be connected to other sensors such as door and window contacts or motion sensors independently from a control center. In case of an alarm, the acoustic signal will be different from the signal in case of fire.
